Who is Marky Mauve?

Mark Anthony Pratico (Marky Mauve) is an independent songwriter, arranger, and engineer based out of Nashville, TN. A self-taught multi-instrumentalist, he began his music career tapping away on the drums at a mere 7 years old. He then joined forces with neighborhood friends, forming various bands over the next 10 years.

As time rolled on, Marky Mauve’s passion for music only intensified. In high school, he delved into the harmonic world of stringed instruments, including the guitar and piano. Despite whatever music he was listening to at the time, he always found himself coming back to his favorite albums by The Beatles, Chicago, and Steely Dan. His grandfather was a prominent trumpet player in New York’s capital district, having the opportunity to share the stage with greats such as Tony Bennett, Sonny and Cher, Liberace, and Glen Campbell to name a few. His grandfather’s love for big-band music added a touch of jazz to his musical palette. Drawing inspiration from a diverse musical lineage, his influences were woven together in the backseat of his father’s car where the dulcet tunes of late-70s and early-80s soft-rock resonated with him the most.

Determined to master every aspect of his craft, Marky Mauve enjoys luthiery, building guitar / bass pickups, and adjusting his Fender Rhodes in his spare time. He believes that the essence of great music lies within the seamless blend of art and analog technology. In fact, he built the preamps used to record his newest album, from scratch.

After parting from various bands in college, he unveiled his debut album, "Two Sided Man", in the spring of 2020. The album reflected his diverse experiences, emotions, and influences. Each track was a reflection of his soul, a fusion of the old and the new, bound by a unique melodic thread that only he could weave.

His second album titled “Marquee Mauve” has been quoted as sounding like “A Modern Yacht-Rock Opera”. The album’s sound builds off of the colors and textures of Los Angeles circa 1978, while also being complimented with a touch of satire. Unlike his first album, he decided to put together a list of expert session musicians to push the harmonic and melodic content of the album to its extent. “Marquee Mauve” was released on September 8, 2023.
